Can you believe it? Samyang has raised the heat! After the famous Spicy hot chicken noodles and then its successor 2x hot chicken noodles they have a new variant which is 3x spicy! How much fire can you tolerate? Well, my spice tolerance was definitely challenged with this variant. Disclaimer: I survived with a heap of tissue paper and ice!
Samyang noodles first took the world on a hot wave with its Spicy Noodles challenge in 2014 when the YouTuber "Korean Englishman" challenged his friends to try the spicy FIRE noodles. It was the beginning of a new noodle era!
The Samyang packet contains a square block of thick noodles, very chewy and udon like. It also contains a garnish packet with a minuscule amount of sesame seeds and dried seaweeds as well as the hot liquid seasoning that is the star of the show. The packet design is fun and loud. The Halal versions are certified by the HACCP.
Ingredients:
Noodles(76.7%): wheat flour (52%), tapioca starch (12%), palm oil (11%), wheat gluten, salt, soybean oil, water, E501, E500, E339, E452, E330, E412, E322, E101.
Preparation is basic instant noodle knowledge. Boil as per your desired chewiness, drain water and then add the liquid seasoning, sprinkle the tiny garnish and light your mouth on fire.
I am a fan of the original Samyang spicy hot fire chicken noodles but had a totally different opinion for 2x. This 3x variant was not what I expected. I thought that it will be worse than 2x but it turned out to have better flavours despite the crazy numbing spice levels. They definitely raised the heat bar compared to the previous two hot variants!
Needless to say, I managed to finish the noodles and enjoyed them but my eyes and nose were leaking profusely, my tongue was numb and my lips were burning. The heat builds up so don't assume that once you stop eating you are done, you are not! This was one of the very rare times where I sucked on some ice cubes to reduce the fiery mouth.
Despite the heat, I enjoyed the 3x spicy variant and recommend (or should I say dare) you to try it. Just a little advice for the faint ones, eat some yoghurt beforehand or add boiled eggs to your noodles. It reduces the heat in the tummy, making your bathroom trips less nightmarish. You can follow up by having a big spoonful of fresh cream or a glass of chilled milk to cool off.
Samyang is easily available on Amazon. If you are in Karachi you can order from
