Every time I visit the grocery store I ALWAYS go to the noodles sections to see if they have anything new. I found these Nissin Gekikara Ramen Rasa Hot Chicken recently and thought they looked a bit similar in terms of flavours to Samyang Buldak noodles because of the way they were advertised. I like noodles so I got them anyways, similar or not, but are they?
Nissin is an Indonesian brand but these were specially imported to Pakistan by a company in Lahore which explains the urdu text. It is quite popular in USA as well. In general, they make really good quality noodles. The Gekikara Ramen variant is something, that I feel, they released as a competitor to Samyang Buldack Variants. The packet had Urdu as well so that was quite impressive. Typically, instead of Hot Chicken in Urdu it should say Rasa Ayam Pedas.
Inside the packet, we have the thick noodles, powder seasoning as well as a liquid flavouring. I boiled the noodles for a couple of minutes and drained them before adding the powder seasoning and sauce. The noodles smelled really nice and my mouth was instantly watering! NOTE: I added stir-fried mushrooms to the noodles for myself, they are NOT in the packet, just want to be clear!
I was pleasantly surprised. I assumed they will be like
Samyang Buldak, crazy hot and hints of flavours but this was a totally different experience. I do feel the inspiration is there but I enjoyed these a lot!
The noodles, on their own, are delicious even without adding the seasoning. Springy, chewy and savoury.
The flavours, despite the spicy sauce, have complexity and depth. You can taste the chicken flavours as well as the hot spices but the balance of heat is brilliantly levelled out. Despite the heat it packs, you still enjoy it. I am a fan. Adding this to my favourite noodles list because these can be indulged in anytime!
I bought these from a local supermarket for just Rupees 250. These are available on
Daraz but the price is higher there. I couldn't find these elsewhere.
