Day 1 of Fashion Forward Season 5 were meetups and workshops with only two presentations. However it was heard that this year round was more planned. Despite the chilled out schedule (compared to last year's) Ezra stole the show, let's say he stole the entire day, with his lip smackingly delicious collection.
Ezra Santos' Collection was the opening act for FFWD season 5, a good choice that kicked started the event with an Oomph. The Manila born Designer, known for his elaborate couture, stunned the audience with not just the poetic presentation but also the complex yet alluring designs.
The collection, "The Maria Clara", was an ode to the fashionable women of Manila and the traditional Maria Clara gown. The gown is actually named after a literary character who became an identity for Filipino women for self assured femininity. Ezra took the inspiration while keeping the core aesthetics same, transforming the Maria Clara and Mestiza gowns into more contemporary forms. The voluminous gowns and skirts, the loose puffy sleeves, collarless camisa, bubbled shaped saya, all the elements were there but interpreted through Ezra's modern couture cuts and style.
The oversized ball gowns and tulle skirts were the apparent standout, though the rest of the sartorial collection didn't fail to impress. The choice of fabric was mainly pineapple fabric woven with silk, inabel, tulle, jacquard, crepe silk and neoprene. Who knew that Pina would look this divine. Color palette of choice was Marsala (color of the year), creamy pink pastels with gold accents. Embellished with Swarovski crystals, textured with lace and laser cut techniques, the collection was imbued with fairy tale-like extravagance.
The Maria Clara was a collection that left a lasting impression. Brides of the world be on an alert, an Ezra gown for the ceremony is highly recommended.
