Shehla Chatoor has never failed to impress. I can actually end my blog post here because enough said. However for the sake of discussing a wonderful collection I must go on. The recent FPWAW'14 was where Shehla presented us with her Opuleno collection "Misaki"(meaning beautiful or blossom). I am giving you a heads up that this post might be a bit subjective but only because of my love for Japanese art and culture (let's not forget fashion) but my opinion about the collection itself will be true.
Far East has been a source of inspiration in many ways for decades, be it art, history and even fashion. Many Asian fashion designers like Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo,Yohji Yamamoto and my personal favorite Akira Isogawa have translated their cultural knowledge through their own poetic interpretation and get due credit for the creation of the Japanese aesthetic in global fashion. The Japanese inspiration is a reoccurring inspiration even in Pakistan Fashion, but it's not the revisiting of the theme, it's what a designer does with it.

Shehla Chatoor is known for her elegant, luxurious approach to fashion and settles for nothing less. The current collection is astoundingly glamorous but the workmanship was what made it stand out. The silk prints inspired by Japanese paintings (Byoubu and Fusuma Panels) was tasteful but what truly made me sit up and oogle were the detailed, structured armor-like bodices, reminiscence of the Samurai armour, a truly applaud-able feat indeed. The fusion of soft scenic art prints on silk voluminous skirts and gowns with bold construction of form fitting bodices was the perfect mix of delicate feminine beauty with a hard, sexy edge.
The color palette was spot on and cant get any wintery than icy-blue greys, black, golds and neutrals. The designer's unique perspective was accentuated with an interesting mix of opacity, contrasting materials and technique of embroidery and embellishment over prints and weaves.
It wont be a surprise to see every socialite, celebrity and fashionista donned in a SHEHLA "Misaki" piece in the upcoming events, award shows and happenings. This was the case last year and this years seems even more likely.
