Getting the best of NYX (almost) in one pouch is a blessing for makeup lovers like me! The NYX Tricks of the Trade Travel kit has a selection of one of the best NYX products and you will see why, unless it's already not clear with just the images. So drool worthy, are these not?
NYX is an affordable brand and when they release limited edition kits like the one I am reviewing today you don't pass the opportunity otherwise it always ends up in regret. Great thing about these kits is that you can buy them to try out different products for less instead of buying full-size products separately. Most of the products in this kit are raved about so you can try travel sized ones and then invest in the full sized products.
The BRAND Claims:
The NYX Tricks of the Trade Travel kit contains 7 products (3 full size and 4 travel size), packed in a clear, handy pouch which you can actually use as an organizer pouch or makeup pouch for traveling. Two of these products are also known for being great dupes of their high-end counterparts. I will be doing a quick review of these, one by one.
- Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator (sunbeam)

- All Over Balm - Argan Oil
First up on the mini reviews are NYX Pore Filler and NYX Liquid Illuminator (sunbeam). Both are travel size and come in a simple tube packaging with a twist off cap. Easy to use.
NYX Pore Filler is considered a great dupe for another cult favorite primer Benefit Porefessional. The formula is talc-free and oil free with vitamin E for a smooth skin. I felt it was slightly more crumbly than Porefessional but did the job well. I used it a few times with satisfactory results. It is silicone based and gives a matte finish. Pores look reduced but not completely flawless. Regular size retails at $14.
Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator is available is 4 shades: Sunbeam, Gleam, Pure Gold and Sungoddess. I got Sunbeam in the travel kit which is a pale, shimmery pearlesque pink. The liquid is creamy, lightweight and blends in smoothly without looking patchy, giving a soft glow. This is also considered a great dupe for Nars Liquid Illuminators. I prefer using this for evening makeup on my nose as well as high brow high lighting. A full size retails for $7.50 which is a steal!
NYX Matte makeup setting spray is yet another dupe, for MAC Prep and Prime. Its really light and also gives a subtle cooling effect. You dont need a lot to spritz either. It was not as long lasting as Prep and Prime but the hold was a good 3 to 4 hours which I think is fine. A great thing to carry during humid summer season like in Karachi or Florida. This travel size is amazing and fits perfectly in my bag. Full size only retails for $8.
NYX High Definition Finishing Powder comes in three shades; Mint, Banana and Translucent. I got Translucent in this travel kit. It sets your makeup and gives a smooth effect, reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores. Compared to other setting powders I was not completely impressed but this powder as it's not as smooth as expected. May work well with dry skin but it got a little patchy on my combination to oily skin. Full size retails at $10.
Next up are the remaining three products from this travel kit, The blush, the butter gloss and the argan oil balm. I am totally loving the argan oil vintage tin packaging and kinda fallen in love with the blush (I rarely fall in love with blushes!).
The NYX All Over Balm is a multi-purpose product that comes in three formulas- Coconut Oil (revives), Argan Oil (fortifies), and Macadamia Nut Oil (soothes). I got Argan Oil. It smells really sweet and pleasant (vanilla + Lychee), clear in color. It's light in feel despite being greasy. I was hesitant to try it on my face but it is great as a lip balm. It hydrates and moisturizes better than any lip balm I have used. I also used it on my hands and fingertips, it really helps with my dry cuticles. It retails for Just $6.50.
NYX Blush and Contour Duo is one of my favorites from this kit. Even though it doesn't mention the shade I am pretty sure I got repackages version of "Wine and Dine". It's also called Cheek Contour Duo Palette on the website while on the travel kit it says otherwise. It blends in like a dream and this combination is perfect for draping, which means contouring with blushes only (in this case a mix). The staying power is good for 4 to 6 hours. The actual duo retails for $9 and comes in 6 duo options.
Last but not the least is NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee. Not a fan of gloss but my sister is and she swears by the formula of NYX butter glosses. She obviously took this gloss away from me, knowing very well I will never use it. I did test it. It's really soft and non-sticky on the lips. The gloss gives sheer to medium coverage depending on the shade you chose. Mine was really sheer due to its super nude shade which didn't even show much on the lips. It's a soft caramel color. Retails at $5 only and comes in 34 shades.
I am really happy with this kit because I got to try many different products. I will be buying the setting spray, primer and blush duo again for sure.
