During Fashion Forward Dubai Season 5 I had a stupid accident with my phone and it stopped working. That didnt steer me away from all the extravaganza. I took down notes on napkins instead and here it is!
DANEH:
Can you make basics look hip and fun? Yes, DANEH knows how. Daneh Buahmad started her eponymous brand at an early age and it took a welcome hit from the consumers. When Daneh was developing this collection she was amidst renovations with the new home and interpreted her desire for comfort through the clothes.
The casual, urban chic collection comprised of sporty yet feminine street wear which can also be deemed as Luxe Sport. The jersey paired with cotton whites, clean lines, structured and functional designs, Daneh presented an array of on the go outfits with a touch of swanky.
SAID MAHROUF:
The sartorial elegance of Said Mahrouf's collection was profound. Every curve, layer, cut, the fabric was singing songs of elegance through his designs. The simplicity of this Moroccan designer's collection was praiseworthy because it amalgamated solidity with subtle geometrical draping to create impact. The inspiration from Kazimir Malevitch’s paintings was quite apparent through the color blocking and the signature black patch.
Its remarkable how Said conceptualizes and creates directly on the mannequin, there is no sketching involved. The flowy, silk dresses dripped with ardour. The collection was quite toned down and basic but not to the level of severity, rather the opposite actually.
MAUZAN:
The brand, known mainly for its exquisite abayas since 1990, was a complete surprise in FFWD. Mauzan's founder Rafia Helal Bin Drai proved through her first FFWD collection "Russian with Love" that she is more than what we expected. There not one abaya in sight. The motley of outfits were more modern, the silhouttes were loose fitted yet shapely and each piece was a standalone beauty.
The fabric choices varied from French lace, Italian organza, Italian crepe, Italian silk, textured brocades, and lots and lots of delicious tulle. Detailing and texture was enhanced through laser cut techniques as well as swarovski embellishments inspired by the whimsical Russian Orenburg patterns and ceramic florals.
There was nothing overly about the collection and even with the disparity of each outfit it still held ground as a collection full of amorousness.
