Print on print is not easy. To create an overall appealing visual, one needs to be careful with the juxtaposition of different patterns and designs. One tiny displacement can put the entire outfit and mood off. Sania Maskatiya, one of the print genius in Pakistan, has proved, once again, with her "Khayat - The Tailor" collection for Telenor Fashion Pakistan Week 2015 that she can do prints with her eyes closed.
Sania took inspiration from the workshop itself, transforming the imagery of the elements around her into an array of prints. She kept the silhouettes simple, which is always a good idea when working with prints. Straight, flowy dresses, well tailored dress pants, a-line tops and crops, the cuts didn't clash with the prints, infact made them stand out more in balance. The designer paid attention to precision in tailoring.
Other than the apparent geometric sprinkles that are a signature Sania, the prints were strewn with all elements one can envision in a designer's work-space. Colorful spools of thread, splashes of paint, scissors and fabric texture, paper for sketching and sequin for embellishments, all translated into a print mosaic.
Standout pieces included the purple loose top with straight pants worn by Amna Babar, The blue-silver, thread-scissor print on Areeba and the "Oh-So-Sania" look on Tooba with straight pants, vest and sleeveless overcoat.
The Khayat whimsy is predicted to be the next 'Most worn" collection of 2015.
A little add on here. The Lawn collection by Sania Maskatiya for Al-Karam, shown on day 3, was the best thing that happened to AlKaram in a very long time. Her innovative prints took Alkaram up a notch and they definitely needed that boost.
