The Upcoming Millennial Star - HANDMADE by Madiha Raza

The brand Handmade by Madiha Raza is as new as a newly hatched chick but holds promise of a great fashion brand in Pakistan (and hopefully the world). The upcoming Millennial Fashion show (previously called GenEX) is being held a week before Pakistan Fashion Week where 5 new designers will be making their debut. Madiha is one of them. What are we expecting from this fresh talent?

WHAT is Millennial Fashion Show?

An event designed as an opportunity for the new talent, to penetrate the barriers set forth for budding designers by giving them a chance to showcase their work. The millennial fashion will launch new designers, styling teams, models and new choreographer into the fashion industry. The winner designer will be selected via on ground voting and will be given a free slot at the Fashion Pakistan Week Spring/Summer 2015 by the council. No fee is being charged to the new designers showcasing their designs at the Millennial Fashion, and their selection is purely based on their quality of work. This even will take place on the 22nd of November 2014 in Karachi.

ABOUT the Collection:

The collection is called flight of birds. It is based on combination of print, texture and layering, which is evident through different techniques like digital prints, laser cut patterns, woven pieces and 3D textures. The collection is mix of creative pieces, coordinated with fun colorful textural bags.

WHAT to Expect from HANDMADE by MADIHA RAZA:

This show is a challenge for her on multiple levels. Madiha has been working with design agencies for the past few years and her main interest has mostly been related to truck art so she has a certain frame of mind. Through this collection she is not only stepping into the world of fashion as a brand but also away from her truck art obsession (or trying to for sure).

The current collection is completely different from her past work. 

"Why just have embroidery to make your apparels or accessories worthy of any fashion ramp collection when we can do so much with just cuts and prints? Her focus is on making her designs practical while experimenting with edgy design aesthetics. She is using digital prints and laser cutting while focusing on fusing traditional cuts with modern silhouettes. 

"I am loving this opportunity as its teaching me so much. Coming up with a collection is a new experience which is both exciting and scary, considering its my first time. I want the end result to be wearable and not costume-like which it's usually like in debut collections."

ABOUT THE TEAM:

Madiha is not alone in her team. Madiha launched her brand HANDMADE with her sister Imrana in 2010, and has participated in different local and international exhibitions. Her sister, Imrana Shahryar, is an experience textile designer herself and manages the entire business/operations of Handmade. Another very important member is Umer Rehman, a PIFD graduate (further did masters from Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia), an experienced fashion designer, who brings with him the knowledge of patterns, cuts and execution with perfection. Together the three create a strong force which is bound to make HANDMADE into a brand which will standout for its unique yet innovative products.

The other designers debuting at the Millennial Fashion include, Sameer Sain, Nitasha Yaqub, Abel Emmanuel and Aalish.
