When I visited Malaysia earlier this year I took a four day trip to Penang with my family. We went by car (Thank God) and even though it took us 5 hours from Kuala Lumpur, I enjoyed the luscious green scenario and our little pit stops in the rest stations on the way.
When we were finally crossing the bridge between Penang city to Penang island I felt overwhelmed by looking at the stretched sea on both sides. It was an amazing feeling. Our main stop was in Georgetown, the capital of Penang and a Heritage city listed under the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. The beautiful town is a perfect balance of East meets West, Art meets Culture, Modern meets History, I can go on and on.
One of our days were spent at the Penang beach. I went into the water after ages, felt so good. The Penang beach is not only known for the beachfront but also its hustling bustling night market which runs along the roadside of the beach strip. After we were done with swimming, lazing around in the sun, watching burkinis and bikinis, and my failed attempt at the water scooter (tide was too high and rough so I freaked out!) we went for some shopping and then finally ended up at the beach food court to fill our tummies before heading back to our guesthouse.
Georgetown is such a colourful town. The streets are an artistic maze full of cultural/historical sites, shrines and temples, shophouses, cafe houses, vintage shops, art centres, colonial architecture and every corner full of tourists. Every street has a story to tell. I was not able to cover most of it but tried. Georgetown is known for its world-famous series of street art as well. Even though mainly consisting of Chinese the city is thriving with multi-cultures (Muslims, Indians, etc), all living in harmony.

RED INN HERITAGE
We stayed in a beautiful, two-story colonial guesthouse situated in Lovelane, Georgetown, Penang by the name of Red Inn Heritage. The guesthouse has rooms with and without bathrooms, available in 2 to 4-bed capacity. Initially, I was a bit doubtful about sharing a public bathroom but I was amazed at how clean they were. Everyone was very responsible. Coffee, tea and water were always available in the lobby (included in the cost of the room). There was a fridge in the main lobby which everyone used (no one stole anyone's food!) and we washed our own dishes. Breakfast was also included in the cost of the rooms. It was different yet liberating. Sharing a space with strangers yet still being comfortable, a new experience. Met so many different people from all over the world, while watching tv in the lobby, sipping tea in the courtyard or reading a book near the entrance, all under one roof. I know where I will be staying next time I visit Georgetown <3 The cost per room came to approximately PKR.2,500/- per night which is very reasonable.

Just 4 days in this city were not enough. I just had a little taste of this beauty and was addicted. I left with a heavy heart determined to return someday soon and stay longer to discover more wonders of this city <3
