MasterChef Pakistan is finally Here

I LOVE MasterChef and when I found out it was finally coming to Pakistan I was even more excited. When I got the invite to attend the MasterChef official launch announcement, media briefing and the "Unveiling of the Judges" I was seriously jumping up and down (no kidding). A friend upon hearing the news pointed out "I hope it's not all about Saalan and Pullao..." and seriously I was thinking why not? I would love to see a GOURMET version of that!

The media briefing was a sweet and short event. It started on time (rare these days) and went smoothly with the formal introductions of the Main Sponsors (Knorr, Ariel, 7up and Shan) and the Urdu1 team, hosted by Sidra Iqbal.

The "Guest of Honor" for the event was the very adorable his Excellency Mr Peter Heyward, the High Commissioner of Australia to Pakistan. He talked about his own passion for food and the collaboration of Australia and Pakistan working together on a platform that is dear to everyone which is FOOD. Earlier this year, Mr Heyward’s office was pivotal in bringing the most popular contestant of MasterChef Australia (season four), Amina Elshafei to Pakistan for a well-received fusion cooking tour. “Food brings cultures and people closer together, I am pleased to be here at the media briefing and wish all the contestants Of MasterChef Pakistan, the very best.”, said Mr Heyward.

After the formal introduction, the guests were shown a brief video recapping the auditions all across Pakistan and then finished the briefing by showing us the MasterChef Tv Commercial which lead to the BIG REVEAL which was the unveiling and announcement of the 3 MasterChef Pakistan Judges Khuram Awan of Movenpick Hotels and prominent celebrity chefs: Chef Zakir Qureshi and Chef Mehboob Khan. 

The event was quite nice, attended by media, socialites and celebrities but my two most favourite things about the evening were being pleasantly blown away by Chef Zakir's makeover and the scrumptious hors d'oeuvres that included canapés, quiches, bruschettas, mini pizza’s, chicken shashlik and an assortment of Lebanese mezze. The Sushi boat with a variety of vegetables and fruit Maki and California Rolls was impressive (though some REAL Sashimi and Sushi would have taken it to another level). For Sweet Lovers there was a diverse assortment of mousses, fruit tarts, Pakistani sweets and not to miss, towering 3-ft croquembouche.

    

The evening left a sweet taste in my mouth (literally and metaphorically) with a big bag of giveaways. The PR and Event Management was done by Sidra Iqbal and Fathma Amir.

MasterChef Pakistan is formally here! Let’s see who will win a prestigious cookbook contract and Rupees Five million prize money! MasterChef Pakistan will commence airing from Saturday, May 3rd 2014 only on Urdu 1. Can't Wait!
