ARY Film Awards aka AFA2014 are definitely promising. However, they happened too soon. The New Cinema is as at the moment NEW. We have just gotten back on track and it will take a few more years before we can start giving out awards. That does not mean we are producing bad films, it just means we need time and more films to actually make any worthy comparisons before we start handing out awards.
The GOOD:
- A worthy initiative by ARY (even if it was too soon).
- The Set Design and Lighting was majestic and praiseworthy. It was quite obvious how much homework and hard work has been put into this beautiful construction by looking at the detailing. The lighting ques and direction was spot on.
- The performances were smooth, well choreographed and highly entertaining. Proper rehearsels always bear sweet fruit. The performance by Amna Illyas and Khurram Patras on a song from their internationally acclaimed movie Zinda Bhag was very well recieved *applause*
- Styling at some places was OTT (Over The Top) but we can't really expect any less in a Film Awards show can we? The credit goes to the creative team at Nabila and N-Gents.
The CONCERNS:
- Shaan is a good actor but a bad host. He talks too much, was not engaging and rather than being direct with the audience he was having personal conversations with other presenters while everyone waited for him to get to the point. At times he was also contradictory. Being proud of being Pakistani doesnt mean you degrade the choices of other's trying their luck in other countries. Choosing how to exceed in your field is a personal choice and nothing to do with patriotism. Shaan stop judging please (unless you are jealous?)
I think our talent is spreading our Country's name in a positive way by going beyond borders. Umaima Malik, Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali and many others are making us proud out there and I respect them for that. (p.s: they got an ward in the same show...*cough cough*)
- Overall BAD SCRIPT. Wasting great hosts like Fahad Mustafa and Sarwat Gillani by making them say nonsensical things was a *face palm* moment. A joke about JJ? Do you know who JJ is? EXACTLY. This show is for public viewing so we need to keep the references PUBLIC as well. (P.s: JJ is Jerjees Seja, CEO Ary Network. A good man but it was not necessary to add him to the lame onscreen/onstage jokes). Ayesha Omer and Hamza Abbasi preceded Fahad and Sarwat later.
- Its good to celebrate New Cinema but does that mean we forget the Golden Legends of those years? Nadeem, Ghulam Mouidin and, Syed Noor were spotted in the back rows right next to mine. They should have been sitting like royalties in the front row. Why not? *scratches head with confusion*
- Note to event manager: You DON'T use garden chairs for row seating and you certainly need Arena seating because it would have given the show a new life and the Gorgeous Stage a whole new meaning.
- Almost ALL the awards went to Waar. Might as well have called it the ARY WAAR awards? Don't get me wrong, Waar is brilliant but overall it didn't do this film or the others justice to be part of this award show this soon in the race with no solid competition to compare with.
- Where was "BOL" and "Khuda Key Liyeh"?
- Invited at 6:30 pm and show started at 11:30 pm. Ok fine it was your first time so you got late, that happens, but please don't go making jokes about people in the audience who have to get up next morning for work or how boring they are because they will leave early...bad timing, further enhancing the bitterness of them waiting so long for the show?
BEST DRESSED at the Red Carpet:
WORST DRESSED at the Red Carpet:
Aiza is a pretty girl but her styling went haywire here. What was the stylist thinking? The clothes on their own are not ugly but unappropriate for this event. Bad styling can kill Fashion....Ouch. There is a big difference between award ceremonies and someone's Valima.

hainnnn ... special contribution to paki cinema.. ali zafar?? he had any films this year??
ReplyDeleteJee :) eheheheheh In India lekin boy toh apna desi hee hai na
DeleteThe kind of work done by Ali Zafar in the neighbouring county, to me was extremely disappointing and so was the award for him. How come only working in India makes him an international star is still a question running around my mind again and again.Anyhow, I liked Shaan as the host though some jokes of other hosts were to some extent lame but not bad over all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting, have a nice day!
