I dont HATE lawns, I dislike the monotony it creates. I don't like looking like a clone and that is exactly what happens even if you pay extra for a designer three piece suit. You never know when and where you will run into another YOU. Every season we see a new pool of "Designer Lawns" emerging and adding on to the already existing ones. Where do they come from? That question is even more complicated than "Why is a carrot more orange than an orange".
A foreign friend once asked "What is this LAWN season you guys keep talking about? Is it like a cultural event? Something to do with your lawn mowing perhaps? do you guys have a lot of grass?" Sigh . . . no dear, its when women go crazy over basic everyday casual attire, rip each others hair and pay extra to flaunt it first, can't get enough of it and the fever is constant. A fashionable, borderline-catastrophic (yes people actually get hurt) event that occurs in Spring/Summer.
Long story short and coming to the point, I do have a love for prints and they are on super trending mode this summer 2014. The 'Lawn' fabric is breathable and comfortable so I found a way of not getting overwhelmed and pushing it out of my life.
These ideas may NOT be 100% applicable on the highly complicated designer pieces with paneling and laces etc etc but I am sure once you get inspired you can find a way too ;) So to break the three piece monotony, mix it up a little:
1. Printed top can be made and worn separately with plain cigarette pants, jeans, skirts or pallazo pants:
2. Printed Pants and Pallazos are already in season so win win situation when you utilize a lawn print into one of these. The only drawback for some might be the sheer fabric. You can wear tops with longer lengths to somewhat control the "too much showing" issue or add a second lining of cloth like most do, otherwise we have seen worse even with shalwar kameez ;) These can be worn over plain or layered tops. Try a denim top with a printed bottom to create a "Super Cool Summer" look <3
3. Skirts are quite the favorite this summer, specially because the long ones are in. You can add a twist to your lawn fabric by turning them into a skirt. For this you can actually mix your top and bottom pieces to create one voluminous skirt.
4. Dupattas, last but not the least, are the most flexible of the package. You can turn it into an infinity scarf or just plainly use it as a stole with any dressing item. Definitely my favorite of the lot in terms of utilization.
So my dear ladies, Happy Lawn Season to you all <3

ReplyDeleteIt doesnt matter if a person is fat or slim as long as they wear anything properly :)
DeleteInteresting tips
ReplyDelete;) :D
DeleteThat was a really interesting post to read! <3 I always feel like turning my lawn into long skirts but then I remember how badly I get starred at in public when I'm wearing a skirt (but that's another issue! :D) I like your palazzo idea though!
ReplyDeleteTry using another thin layer of Lining under the skirt without getting it stitched at the hemline and it will give a Voluminous Look. Try it! :)
Deletewow i love all the colourful prints, feel like spring n summer now

DeleteYour post was very informative. I have never heard the word lawn in this context so thanks for educating me. Several of the prints were beautiful. I, particularly, like the use of bold colors in some of the prints. Have a great week.
