I love my glasses but if given an opportunity where I don't have to depend on them, I would take it. I have been wondering about the innovative Lasik eye surgery for years now. Why? Because anything related to eye can be scary so I was stuck at the "wondering" phase until very recently I got an opportunity to go meet the professional doctors at Hashmanis who are also the Pioneers of Lasik in Pakistan.

Understanding Lasik with Hashmanis

I am not going to lie, even after my visit to Hashmanis  I am scared of going through the procedure so I am most probably going to wait till I get my cataract and then just go all in once, yaas (goosebumps). However, that is my choice, more out of being a scaredy cat and not because its not reliable. I have only gotten positive feedback so far from all the people I know personally who have gone through Lasik from Hashmanis. Dr Shareef, of Hashmanis, performed Topo-guided LASIK in front of us. It was live, I chickened out and decided to watch through squinted eyes on a screen. Some brave bloggers actually saw it happening in front of them.

WHAT is TOPO GUIDED LASIK

I am going to try tell you in very simple terms. Laser surgery is a quick and painless method of eliminating near- and farsightedness as well as astigmatism (a defect in the eye or in a lens caused by a deviation from spherical curvature, which results in distorted images, as light rays are prevented from meeting at a common focus).

Laser eye surgery is planned and designed for each client individually. It is an eye sight fixing procedure done through the use of high technology laser. It is not painful but can be highly uncomfortable. The main reason it is NOT painful is because of the very strong anesthetic eye drops that the doctors use on your eyes before proceeding with the surgery.

The latest Topo Guided Lasik literally takes 10 to 15 minutes. The built in diagnostic technology is able to meticulously identify and record irregularities in the cornea’s curvature as well as its optics. During LASIK, this information is combined with the patient’s corrective eyewear prescription to dramatically improve vision for those suffering from nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism.

I dont want to get into the graphic procedure of the operation but in actuality it was very quick and efficient. It basically reshapes your cornea so the light can properly refract from it. This is the most advanced technology helping people to get 6/6 eye sight and Hashmanis is the only one offering.

After TOPO Guided LASIK you will:
  • Significantly improved functional vision and quality of life
  • Improvement at night time vision
  • Improvement in reading
  • Reduce complaints of glare and haloes
  • Reduce complaints of starbursts
The procedure, depending on the condition of your eyes, can cost from 35K to 150k.

RISKS?

Not everyone can get Lasik but many doctors fail to guide their patients and then the technology itself gets blamed. A lot of times patient fails to take caution that is required after the surgery and that also leads to complications like infection and blurry vision. Homework, as well as extreme caution and care, is required and that goes for any surgery you get done.

It is very normal for you to feel light sensitivity and dry eyes after the surgery as your eyes are at a sensitive healing stage.

It is advisable to understand that not everyone is eligible for this surgery. The procedure cannot be performed:
  • On those below 18 years of age
  • On patients with cataracts
  • On women who are pregnant
  • If the cornea is too thin to permit the procedure (however, this is very rare)
All that aside be 100% sure about anything you want to do and make sure you do research first. Also never compromise over money. Better to pay the right amount to the right person than go to a cheap doctor and loose your eyesight, right?
