Let's do the Sombre - L'Oreal Feria Wild Ombre DIY Kit

Ombre (gradient) hair is quite a statement maker. Recent trend is more Sombre than Ombre, meaning that it is more subtle than intense (though pop stars still prefer more intensity!) I tried doing Ombre myself long time ago before I started blogging and it didn't quite end up like I wanted...I ended up with really dry hair which I had to chop off later :/ Since then I have been waiting for L'Oreal to introduce their Wild Ombre range in Pakistan....and then they did. Wohoooo! :)

L'Oreal Feria Wild Ombre No.2:

Feria series in L'Oreal Paris has always been one of my favorites as I love extreme hair. I have gone a bit subtle in recent years though. The Wild Ombre series comes for different hair colors but the best thing about this product is that is suits all hair lengths, color and texture. I do wish I got No.1 for testing which was more suitable for my dark brown hair but ended up with No.2 I still managed to work with it :)

The BRAND Claims:
"Féria Wild Ombré makes getting the look super-easy. Each of the three formulas is customized to work with your existing haircolor, from blonde to dark brown, ensuring your shade of ombré is perfect. The specially designed brush makes lightening the lengths and ends of your hair simple and foolproof. Just brush on formula to the bottom third of your hair, wait the recommended time, then rinse and style. If you love the look of ombré but prefer a more natural effect, choose instead a highlighted ombré look. Lighten alternating strands of your lengths and ends, so highlights blend in subtly with your hair color. (Ideal for long layers.)"

My EXPERIENCE:

- Packaging: Simple and not only has good information in the leaflet inside but enough on the box outside as well, enough to satisfy someone to buy it. The products inside also have a good finish and don't look cheap. Totally digging the black gloves. The Overall kit includes:

1. Expert Application Brush
2. Lightening Powder
3. Developer Creme
4. Lightening Creme
5. Conditioning Shampoo
6. Disposable Gloves

- The Process:
This DIY Ombre kit is super easy! I was so scared of trying anything on my hair after last time and this kit was an ice breaker for me. Make sure you do a patch test before you try this product as you might be allergic and can get a rash. The steps are quite simple:

1. Take the Lightening Powder (marked as 1) and pour it into the Developer bottle with the Nozzle (marked 2) and shake a little.

2. Now take the black tube Lightening Cream (marked 3) and squeeze it all inside the Developer Bottle. Make sure you shake it vertically and horizontally. Immediately open the nozzle top to avoid the bottle from bursting.

3. DONT forget the Gloves! I will be honest with you guys though, I only wore it in one hand which I used to touch my hair. The hand I used for application brush didn't have a glove. I feel I get a better grip without it.

4. Now the FUN part *bounce bounce* Take the Application Brush and squeeze some hair developing cream on to it. Now just keep in mind that you can easily apply it to your hair if you make sure you part it from the center and apply it from the bottom layer to  the top. When starting with the bottom layer clip rest of the hair on the top of your head.

5. Now depending on the length of your hair and how much Ombre you want start applying with the brush. After the bottom layer take out the middle layer, brush on application and mix with the previous layer. Do this with all layers. Be very careful with the top layer as you don't want too much Ombre their. It looks tad bit harsh.





I applied the cream to the lower sections of my hair as I didn't want too much. You can control it according to what look you desire, isn't that great :)

6. After application keep the cream on for 25 to 45 minutes. My hair is stubborn :/ so I had to keep it on for 45 minutes. Also the Ombre kit I got was for lighter hair and mine are dark so I had to keep it for longer so it is as effective as possible. However, make sure you don't leave it on for more than 45 minutes or you will damage your hair and get a bird's nest in return.

7. After 45 minutes rinse your hair with warm water and then further wash it with the Conditioning Shampoo. Tada! you are done.



- Results:
I am glad I tried this Kit. It gives you a sense of achievement and confidence to try new things. It was easy to follow and manageable. Even though my hair didn't get as BLONDE as I expected I am still happy with the results. I will tone down the orange overcast a bit though.

COST:
Compared to the high charges at salon this DIY kit is only for PKR.1,200 and totally worth it :)

CONS:
It drys your hair so if you have super dry and fine hair test it on a strand first.
